The project at hand now involves the so-called hot-swappable function, and there are some ambiguities. I hope that there will be expert guidance. The board is powered by 24V DC, communicates with the main device via Ethernet, and uses one cable to integrate the two wires into a bundle. Now I hope to be able to plug and unplug directly while the board is working (plug and unplug the power cord and communication line at the same time). Leaving aside the software-level issues such as communication interruption and unsaved data for the time being, from the perspective of hardware reliability alone, I don’t know what issues should be paid attention to. I have two points in mind:
1. Hot plugging and unplugging may cause arcing
2. ICs such as CPU may have power-off timing requirements, and frequent operations like this may affect their lifespan
I don’t know what other issues need attention?

Why is it hot-swappable? Can you consider adding a btn switch to the motherboard, plug it in and then power it on.
If you have to hot plug, it is recommended to choose a better connector and make an esd design.

What we are doing is a human-computer interaction device, mainly used to send commands to the control cabinet and display some data. For cost considerations, it is hoped that one such device can be used to control several independent control cabinets in turn.
So the leader made such a request:
First connect the device with control cabinet A, after the setting operation is completed, unplug the device and then plug it into control cabinet B without the power supply.

It is easy to damage the instrument by re-plugging and unplugging, and the surge generated in an instant is very big.

I have some questions:
1. Is this surge generated on the power line or on the communication line?
2. Is the surge generated when it is plugged in or disconnected?
3. The device that may be damaged is my board or the main device communicating with me?

1. On the power supply;
2. The power is generated at the moment of shutting down and starting, and it is usually larger when the power is turned on than when it is turned off;
3. It is not clear about your connection method, but it is certain that hot swapping will definitely damage the instrument or components.
